Hogan Speaking at the California Lawyers Association 26th Annual Estate and Gift Tax Conference in San Francisco

The California Lawyers Association (CLA) is an organization dedicated to the professional advancement of attorneys practicing in the state of California. The CLA delivers high-quality educational and networking programs, events, and resources and continuously seeks new ways to expand their offerings.

The CLA is hosting their 26th Annual Estate and Gift Tax Conference on March 15-16, 2018 in San Francisco, CA. This conference will focus on a number of key topics including the fundamentals of partnership taxation, usage of life insurance in an uncertain tax environment, and the income and transfer taxation of foreign trusts. James Hogan, Andersen Managing Director, will be on a discussion panel titled Hot Audit Issues. This program will address the latest from the IRS in Washington, D.C., including recent legislative and regulatory changes. The panel will also discuss the latest case law and rulings as well as the recent trends in gift and estate tax audits.

James Hogan has over 35 years of legal and accounting experience and was most recently a Branch Chief in Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) Office of the Chief Counsel. In that role, he had responsibility for all matters relating to estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax issues. In addition, he reviewed briefs filed by IRS in the United States Tax Court and memoranda to attorneys in the Department of Justice. James is part of US National Tax, serving as a resource for international taxation. 

The California Lawyers Association is a nonprofit, voluntary organization and the new home of the Sections of the State Bar of California and the California Young Lawyers Association (CYLA). The Sections are voluntary organizations of attorneys and affiliates who share an area of interest. The CYLA is an organization of California lawyers in their first five years of practice in California or age 36 or under. It is run by the CYLA Board of Directors, whose members are drawn from diverse constituencies.
