Duffy Joins AICPA’s Tax Executive Committee

The American Institute of CPAs Tax Executive committee’s role is to help the Tax Division achieve its mission to "serve the public interest by assisting AICPA members to be the most trusted professional providers of tax services, and by advocating sound tax policy and effective tax administration." They have authority to speak and act on behalf of the AICPA in tax matters, including tax legislation, tax administration, ethical standards of tax practice, and information to assist AICPA members in maintaining and increasing their proficiency in taxes.

The committee is made up of a Chair, a Vice-Chair or Immediate Past Chair, and sixteen other members.  Appointments to the TEC are made annually by the Chair of the AICPA Board of Directors. Generally, TEC members are selected from among former working group chairs and other members with substantial experience serving the Tax Division. TEC Chairs serve one year as Vice Chair, two years as Chair, and one year as Immediate Past Chair.

Mary Duffy has been appointed to the AICPA’s Tax Executive Committee. Her term will officially begin on October 25, 2016.

Mary Duffy is a Managing Director in Andersen’s US National Tax office and is the co-leader of Andersen’s accounting methods team. Mary also advises clients on tax policy and legislative matters and is a frequent speaker for Tax Executive Institute, BNA seminars, Andersen’s Family Office Roundtables and other events.

Immediately prior to joining Andersen, Mary served as one of two Legislation Tax Accountants with the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) from 2011 to 2013. While with the JCT, Mary worked with key tax personnel within Congress on the development and drafting of tax legislation as well as various tax reform proposals. Mary also assisted in the review of large taxpayer refund claims submitted by the Internal Revenue Service for JCT review.
